Devon

Devon has a long common border with Somerset with which it shares the National Park of Exmoor. Devon is a beautiful rural county with coasts on both the Bristol Channel to the north and the English Channel to the south. In the south of the county is Dartmoor, another National Park, which is wilder and more sparsely populated than Exmoor.
There are many interesting towns and villages in the county. The north coast is particularly easily accessible from Minehead via the A39, albeit via the steep hills of Porlock and Countisbury. Just into Devon on this road you will find the fascinating twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth which are joined by a funicular railway and are both well worth a visit.
A very interesting day trip to Lundy Island can be made from Ilfracombe, see the links below for more information.
